So, this past Christmas was definitely one for the record books. Blizzard!! We went over to my parents' house on Christmas Eve to have our Christmas with them. While we were there it started snowing late in the afternoon. We continued with dinner and opening our presents. Emma loved all her new presents and playing with some of our gifts too. When it was time for us to leave, the blizzard was in full force. We almost just stayed the night at my parents' house, but Brandon seemed to think we could get home. Well, on our drive home, snow was blowing horizontally and there was already several inches on the ground. What usually is a 10 minute ride home took us 45 minutes! We got all the way home with no problems until we hit the driveway...stuck! So, we all got out at the end of the driveway and walked in. Brandon had to go out and dig a path for the car to get in the garage.
Christmas morning, we woke to several more inches of snow and a bright sun shining down on all the white powder. It was definitley a beautiful sight...just not fun to drive in. Santa had brought Emma a baby doll and a stroller, bed and carrier to go with her. She loved it! Then, we each took turns opening up presents from under our tree. We didn't get to go to church this year because of the snow...so, we read the Christmas story at home.
Later in the afternoon, we made the very LONG journey to Broken Arrow to celebrate Christmas with Brandon's mom and stepdad. I say long because it took us over an hour to get there because of all the ice and snow (it usually takes about 20-25 minutes). Anyway, we made it there safely. We opened presents there too. Emma seemed to be getting tired of opening up gifts....we had to entice her to the gift by starting the unwrapping. Once we started, then she wanted to see what was inside.
Later that evening, my mom, dad and sisters came to the Steitz's for dinner. So, we all got to be together...even with the mounds of snow and ice that came the night before.
We left shortly after dinner because we knew it would take a while to get home...1 1/2 hours later, we were home. It was so nice to be home safe and sound after all of that. The roads stayed covered for several days in the Tulsa and Jenks area...not enough snow plows to go around.
